Echotopography Digital Volumes
EDV’s are the digital engraving calibration measurements used for setting up every anilox. It measures the cubic
microns per inch carrying capacity of the anilox engraving, as measured in Billions - or expressed as Billions Cubic Microns (BCM). XLT™ surfaces are manufactured using EDV, providing the most accurate digital transfer volumes
in the world.

Engraving
In order to maximize the benefits Harper’s XLT™ Digital Technology, understanding the basic concepts behind specifying your anilox is critical. Digital XLT™ engraving technology results yields advance cell profiles in comparison to traditional YAG (Yttrium Aluminum Garnet) and CO2 technology.
Harper’s XLT™ Digital Technology delivers the best of both worlds: greater volume and better transferability. The new cell profile enables the digital engraving of aniloxes at higher cells per inch with greater volumes. The results when combined with the ongoing technological advancement in the Flexographic industry is unprecedented graphic fidelity.
Ratio of Cells to Polymer Dot
When calculating the proper ratio of cells per inch to support your minimum desired polymer dot, remember the 6:1 ratio. A 2% Dot requires 900 cells per inch to maintain 150 line per inch printing. This ratio minimizes overloading the smallest dot with too much ink which would result in dot bridging and a perceived “dirty print”. Combined with advancements in polymer, inks and presses, some of our customers have achieved ratios of 8:1 when using XLT™ engraved rolls and UV inks.
